friday funnies

I was flying solo today, and played mummy for eleven hours instead of the usual five. While Tyler was at school Kennedy and I went to the playground before picking Bryce up from pre-school and taking him to a birthday party where he was more interested in plastic farm animals than the jumping castle and the strange man with a red nose who perhaps shouldn't have quit his day job. He played quietly inside while the other children ran about the garden.
After school we listened to Disney songs and baked wholemeal gingerbread(ish) cookies. Ty informed me of the properties of "wrestling sugar" and I couldn't help but giggle quietly to myself as I sifted the icing sugar into a plastic bowl.

bryce

I didn't expect the outcome of me asking Bryce to make faces would be quite as hilarious as it was. Generally when you ask a four year old to make a funny face for a photograph you get a bit of tongue and perhaps a slight tilt of the head but Bryce really knows how to work it. The two of us were in a fit of giggles looking at these photographs. I still can't stop laughing. I hope they make your day, just like they made mine.

little lady

Oh! if I could have bottled Kennedy's happiness and framed her milky grin today I would have. She is so delightful. We had such a wonderful day. I even stole a few kisses from her little lips and planted a few more on her rosy cheeks. It started to rain ever so slightly on our way home this afternoon, I sang Pennies from Heaven to her as I pushed the stroller down the high street. She liked it so much I sang it twice.

p.s. I took great pleasure in coordinating her outfit this morning.

lazy sunday

I read a letter from my Ma, drank tea, added songs to my wedding playlist, made future plans, took a nap, sang routine evening ramblings, ate porridge for dinner and wrote a letter to my Ma.

old man jock

Oh me oh my, what a blessed evening. I warmed up my vocalisers and carried my guitar around the corner to The Dukes Head pub to sing a few tunes to the folk that were seated inside. Jodi came to listen before venturing out for a wild night at Tiger Tiger, a place I know nothing of, and I was left flying solo. I made friends with old man Jock and fellow Australian Anthony. Jock drunkenly rambled about things I couldn't quite understand, Anthony told me of his life, his wife and how they came to be. The bar tender and I also became acquainted. We exchanged many smiles between the few words we spoke. In his delightful British accent he asked me how my hot chocolate was and I told him it was lovely, really meaning 'I might be in love with you'. I lingered at the bar until just after 1am listening to voices of strangers telling tales and singing tunes. I walked home in the dark, proud of the conversations I held and happy about how my evening turned out.

in passing

Tonight Patrick took me wandering. We took photographs of strangers and drank hot chocolate in a trendy cafe that had bits of bikes hanging from the ceilings and a genuinely groovy atmosphere about it.

My favourite thing about these photos is the blur of the people walking by. I like that you can see that they were just passing by, insignificant as they are to me. Though I'd like to know every little thing about them, all I know is that they were in the same place that I was, if only for a moment. I know what they looked like in that moment and whether or not they were walking differently to the person next to them.

I also like that the skateboarders look like they're dancing.
